Streetscape-conscious gardening which is done by ordinary citizens is one of the important means of "Hana-to-midori-no-machizukuri" which means town improvement movement with flowers and plants. So a study was carried out aiming to know the actual conditions of the gardening from the view point of desiging and attitude of the residents. The results may be summarized as follows: 1)88% of 76 local goverments which have more than 50,000 population in Kinki Area are working on "Hana-to-midori-no-machizukuri", 2)gardening forms are classified into 4 types - spotted, linear, two dimensional and three dimensional types, 3)gardening is done for such aims of decoration, presentation, and satisfaction of demands in daily life, 4)most of people hold affirmative and open-minded attitude as to gardening being watched by passers.
