In recent years, deer feeding damage has become a problem in Japan. Japanese Deer, Cervus nippon eat plant buds, leaves, and bark, which interfere with plant growth and affect the ecosystem. In this study, we investigated the vegetation, food scars, and community height around the fence in Yashimagahara Marsh. As a result, it was found that the area outside the fence was dominated by Miscanthus sinensis and Sasa nipponica, while the area inside the fence was dominated by Carex oxyandra with high-stemmed herbaceous plants like Apiaceae that deer prefer.
