This study investigated current-year tree seedlings in a warm-temperate evergreen forest on Mt. Kasugayama, a World Heritage Site in Nara Japan. In 24 study plots (total area = 980 m^2) there were 1681 current-year tree seedlings, of 42 species. Symplocos prunifolia, Abies firma, Castanopsis cuspidata, Eurya japonica, Parthenocissus tricuspidata, Ampelopsis leeoides, and Rhus tricocarpa were abundant in the study pots ; dufing May and November of 2002, current-year tree seedlings of 55 species were found in a 45ha area. Mega- and mesophanerophytes (MM) and mesopharerophytes (M) represented 49.9% and 45.3%, respectively, of the life-form spectra of current-year tree seedlings, while nanophanerophytes (N) had a low value of only 4.8%. Of the 55 species that produced current-year seedlings, 9.1% were non-native.論文
